What happens in a neuropsychological

evaluation?

Neuropsychological evaluations are intended for individuals who are experiencing concerns related to potential cognitive impairments. Common reasons for referral for this service include, but are not limited to: dementia, stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, post Covid-19 brain fog, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Patients MUST be referred by another healthcare professional in order to receive a neuropsychological evaluation.

Neuropsychological evaluations involve a series of tests that assess cognitive functioning status in all areas of the brain. These tests involve the patient completing a variety of different types of tasks under the observation of Dr. Weber and/or another member of our office staff. The tests in a neuropsychological evaluation do not involve any scans, imaging, or collection of samples from the body.
Once testing is completed, the scores are gathered and interpreted against normative data. These results are then included in a report to be discussed with the patient and then sent back to the referring healthcare provider.

The testing is usually completed in one office visit, lasting approximately two and a half hours. However, if the testing process lasts longer than two and a half hours, we will strongly recommend that a second office visit be scheduled to complete the remainder of the examinations at a later time in order to prevent heightened stress or exhaustion.

Neuropsychological testing is carried out by both Dr. Weber and one of our New York State-Registered Testing Technicians. You may also be asked if one of our undergraduate interns may observe during your appointment for academic purposes only. If you are uncomfortable with being observed, it is your right to decline this.

PLEASE NOTE: Our office does not provide neuropsychological evaluations for forensic or legal purposes. If you are seeking a neuropsychological evaluation for the purposes of a lawsuit, our office is not able to provide that service.

What happens in a psychological evaluation

for bariatric surgery ?

Individuals who are seeking to undergo bariatric surgery (including, but not limited to: gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and gastric banding procedures) are required to visit a psychologist during their preparation process for surgery.

A psychological evaluation for bariatric surgery involves a discussion about an individual's medical history, family medical history, previous and current nutrition habits, and information about the procedure that they plan to undergo. A psychological evaluation for bariatric surgery is completed in one office visit, lasting approximately thirty minutes to an hour.

What happens in psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is what most people think of when talking about seeing a therapist for any mental-health related reason. Although it is often referred to as "talk-therapy," it can take place in a variety of different ways. It involves meeting with a therapist and working together to help you achieve your goals for improvement of your mental health and overall wellness.

All psychotherapy appointments typically last between 45 minutes and one hour. Our office has four therapists on staff, three of whom are mental health counselors and one of whom is a creative arts therapist offering music psychotherapy. Our office is offering psychotherapy both in-person and via tele-health. Please visit the staff page of our website to learn more about each of our therapists and decide which of our therapists may be the best fit for you!

At this time, Dr. Weber is unable to accept new patients for regular psychotherapy and counseling services.

We are not able to provide referrals to other clinicians currently accepting new patients for psychotherapy and counseling. We apologize for this inconvenience.
